Tripos Deploys Industry-Leading Enterprise Chemical Informatics System at Schering AG

Tripos, Inc. (Nasdaq:TRPS), a leading provider of drug discovery informatics products and chemistry research, has reached a milestone in its development of an Enterprise Chemical Information Management System (ECIMS) at Schering AG, Germany. ECIMS was deployed to more than 250 users at Schering’s sites in Richmond, Calif., in the United States and Berlin and Jena in Germany.

Built on an electronic laboratory notebook platform, the ECIMS solution stores chemical data and provides support for planning, synthesis and logistics of all compounds. Specifically, ECIMS allows scientists to efficiently manage research plans; access chemical information from across the organization; prioritize experiments and avoid redundancies; and immediately determine what materials are on hand to use in their research.

Many of the technologies developed as part of the ECIMS solution will be commercially available as new Tripos Discovery Informatics products, including a new electronic laboratory notebook product that will be formally launched later this summer.

“We are delighted by the acceptance of ECIMS by Schering scientists and will be particularly excited to see the long-term business benefits that ECIMS brings to research at Schering AG,” said Dr. John P. McAlister, president and chief executive officer at Tripos. “ECIMS stands as a sterling example of how discovery informatics solutions from Tripos are being used to improve project team collaboration and streamline global discovery processes.”

“ECIMS is a significant upgrade to our operational infrastructure, allowing our researchers to share critical research data and to more efficiently manage research projects,” said Professor Dr. Rainer Metternich, head of Research Center Europe at Schering.
