University of Florida ICBR Selects Geospiza for Next Generation Expansion

SEATTLE, Washington – July 22, 2008 Geospiza, Inc., the market leading developer of genetic analysis software, today announced that the University of Florida has selected Geospiza’s FinchLab™ to manage its systems for the Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research (ICBR) Next Generation DNA Sequencing Laboratory.

“When we adopted Geospiza’s products to solve data management challenges with our Capillary Sequencing eight years ago, it was one of the most important decisions we made for our sequencing business. Along with the more obvious benefits, it allowed our bioinformatics group to focus foremost on high-level data analysis for our user community rather than divert time and energy to solving routine data management tasks,” said Bill Farmerie, Ph.D., ICBR Associate Director. “So, Geospiza’s FinchLab was the clear choice against alternative solutions when we expanded our operations to include Next Gen. FinchLab’s robust out-of-the-box functionality and broad platform support were key factors in our decision-making and enabled us to use the same system for our Capillary and Next Gen DNA Sequencing.”

ICBR is a state of the art research support center providing services in the areas of custom and high-throughput DNA sequencing and genomics. “We are delighted to work with the University of Florida ICBR as they expand their world class facility,” said Todd Smith, CEO of Geospiza. “As labs expand their operations to include Next Generation technologies, the selection of FinchLab to support existing and new genetic analysis platforms is a validation of the success of our current and future product direction.”

From a single web-based system, Geospiza’s FinchLab helps customers manage their laboratories across multiple genetic analysis technologies, including Capillary and Next Generation Sequencing Instruments from Applied Biosystems and Roche operated by UFL.
