University of Pittsburgh’s PantherlabWorks to Use MindMatters’ Innovator for DoD Center of Excellence

The University of Pittsburgh‘s PantherlabWorks has begun using MindMatters Innovator(TM) software as the innovation platform for technology development, communication, and collaboration at its U.S. Department of Defense Center of Excellence.

PantherlabWorks, part of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh, was created in June, 2000 to serve as a virtual incubator for developing pioneering technology ready for commercialization, providing a clear pathway from laboratory innovation to the commercial market.

PantherlabWorks was recently awarded a contract to work with the U.S. Department of Defense to develop a systematic and detailed process for commercializing technologies that safeguard our nation. These services will be provided as a Center of Excellence for emergency first responder technologies.

Since speed to commercialization was imperative, tools and methods that could deliver acceleration were critical to success. MindMatters’ Innovator(TM) was selected to manage the strategic processes that systematically identify, capture, and assess ideas from thousands of researchers at DoD Labs and other R&D institutions. Innovator will be used to manage the relationships with small businesses, industry, and academia to tap into the technology of DoD laboratories in order to maximize technology transfer activities that can benefit the DoD and the nation’s first responders

Ann Dugan, Assistant Dean and Executive Director of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence at Katz Business School, commented, “PantherlabWorks selected MindMatters’ Innovator to accelerate the rate at which first responder research is transitioned into commercially viable products and successful new ventures for national security. We are fulfilling a critically important role for the United States.”

John Gabrick, CEO of MindMatters Technologies, added, “By linking businesses, industry and academia with the technology and know-how from DoD laboratories, first responders’ needs and priorities will be addressed. We’re proud that we can play an important role in this important initiative.”
