Recently, we completed an impressive project that I would like to share with you. In February, we embarked on a clinical LIS/LIMS project with a molecular diagnostics lab in Texas. They had an aggressive time schedule to go live. The project started on February 11th and went live on May 1st. They are doing both diagnostic and pharmacogenomic tests and our system is tracking everything from the beginning (requisition) to the end (Final Report). This has all been accomplished in under 11 weeks.
They are receiving blood, saliva and tissue samples from a network of clinics and hospitals in their regional network in Houston. The clinics and hospitals can get access to the laboratory system being implemented on the UNIFlow by UNIConnect platform via a web portal where they are able to submit samples and pre-order the required tests from their locations. This enables the lab to predetermine their incoming volume and have supplies on hand to run the tests when the samples arrive. It also affords an opportunity to track the samples from source to lab by noting the carrier who is delivering the samples.
Assays that we included were for CYP2C19, warfarin, CYP2C9 & VKORC1, MTHFL Panel, 2D6, 3A4 and 3A5. In the process of developing these assays we have connected to Qiagen, Roche, Genmark, Luminex and Autogenomics instruments.
The system includes accessioning, patient management, physician and clinic management, reagent and instrument management, scoring, reporting and all of the steps of the many assays that they are running. Some of the other things that this system includes:
Complete step by step workflow of each sample based on tests ordered and sample type
Complete genealogy of each sample including reagents used, machines used, lab techs involved etc.
Importing of CSV instrument result files to system
Process logic rules and well position assignments based on rules that assign positions for positive and negative controls
Completely new accessioning system that automatically generates numbers and searches for patient data
Integration with Xifin billing system
A sample storage system is also included with the system and will allow the temporary and permanent storage of samples based on the protocols for each sample type. This storage management system includes freezers that will store samples at -80C indefinitely. The location of each sample is identified and inventoried for future access.
