Vital Images Ships First ViTALConnect(TM) Software Package
Vital Images, Inc., a leading provider of advanced medical imaging software, has shipped the first ViTALConnect(TM) software package, an FDA-cleared medical diagnostic software tool that allows physicians to use PCs or notebook computers to access 2D, 3D and 4D advanced visualization capabilities from a Web-enabled thin-client server. With ViTALConnect, users can process, analyze, review and distribute multi-dimensional medical images securely over the Internet without any proprietary hardware.
“ViTALConnect is our first Web-enabled offering and moves Vital Images beyond our traditional markets,” said Jay D. We have completed the ‘Vitalization’ of the product we obtained in the HInnovation acquisition, and ViTALConnect is now available to our physician customers. For many physicians, including surgeons and referring physicians, 24/7 access to advanced visualization is both a convenience and a priority, especially in time-critical situations.”
ViTALConnect can analyze datasets from computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR) and positron emission tomography (PET) scanners, as well as a variety of other medical imaging modalities. The software enables users to analyze, measure, rotate and segment images, turning everyday PCs into diagnostic workstations. For example, cardiac images composed of multiple phases can be viewed over time in 4D, creating a beating heart in time-series coronary studies. ViTALConnect allows viewing of fused images from two different scanning modalities (such as PET/CT) at the same time, to give clinicians richer diagnostic information. In addition, ViTALConnect includes a collaboration mode which enables multiple physicians in different locations to confer while interacting with the same images in real time.
Vital Images introduced ViTALConnect at the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology Annual Meeting in May 2004. This software was adapted from a product developed by HInnovation, a company Vital Images acquired in February 2004.
