Waters and Proteome Software Partner to Integrate Proteomics Technologies

Milford, MA and Portland, OR – August 15, 2008

Waters Corporation (WAT:NYSE) and Proteome Software, Inc. announced today a collaboration that will provide compatibility between their complementary data acquisition and interpretation software. Researchers acquiring high-definition proteomics data with the Waters® IdentityE High Definition™ proteomics system will soon be able to bring that data into Proteome Software’s widely respected Scaffold 2.1 visualization software, providing high accuracy protein identifications. The firms announced their collaboration at the Human Protein Organization (HUPO) 7th Annual World Congress in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The anticipated release of the new version of software is in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Core laboratories identifying proteins involved in key biological processes face an immensely complex task due to the sheer number and dynamic range of proteins present in a sample. Identifying proteins accurately with high-sequence coverage is made easier with research-grade mass spectrometers and informatics. “The ability of Scaffold to visualize our IdentityE results will allow scientists to maximize the information from our proprietary LC-MSE technology”, said James Langridge, Ph.D., director of Proteomics Business, Waters Division.

“Researchers will improve their chances of identifying significant proteins if they can easily visualize mass spec data in a biological context,” said Mark Turner, President of Proteome Software.

In commenting on the collaborative work by Waters and Proteome Software, Arthur Moseley, Ph.D., Director of Proteomics for the Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy at Duke University’s School of Medicine said, “The transformation of data into knowledge from qualitative proteomics experiments is greatly enhanced by combining the comprehensive peptide ion accounting informatics of the IdentityE Software with Scaffold’s comprehensive MS/MS meta-analysis tools. Integrating protein and peptide identifications with biological function and biological compartmentalization information significantly increases the information content of the data returned from the proteomics laboratory.”

Waters to Showcase New Separations Platform at HUPO

Waters is showcasing its new TRIZAIC™ UltraPerformance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC®) System with nanoTile™ Technology designed to deliver exceptional sensitivity for limited-sample, direct-flow, nanoscale protein separations. For use with Waters nanoACQUITY UPLC®/SYNAPT HDMS and SYNAPT MS Systems, the system combines novel microfluidic separation technology with Waters sub-two-micron column chemistries, unique solvent delivery and comprehensive data management for both large- and small-molecule applications. The TRIZAIC UPLC System represents a highly-intelligent, integrated approach to separation science – fueled by the company’s unequalled UPLC technology.

About Proteome Software (www.proteomesoftware.com)

Scaffold Software is the industry-standard MS/MS meta-analysis tool that displays a complete, experiment-wide view of the proteins identified in a tandem mass spectrometry experiment. Scaffold helps proteomics researchers validate, visualize, and share their data. More information about Scaffold 2.1, and a downloadable, 14-day evaluation copy of the software is available at www.proteomesoftware.com.
