“As the use of electronic health records (EHRs) has become the standard method of capturing clinical information, the proportion of immunization records submitted to immunization information systems (IIS) via electronic data exchange has significantly increased.

The Immunization Integration Program (IIP), established to improve immunization interoperability, facilitated a joint effort between EHRs and IIS to improve data quality through best practice development and adoption. The program studied several healthcare organizations and IIS data exchange partnerships with a focus on identifying, analyzing and addressing common issues to improve immunization data quality.
