“Molecular syndromic panels for the diagnosis of infectious diseases are being adopted by many clinical laboratories and are changing the way in which infections are being diagnosed. These panels offer many possible benefits such as quicker diagnoses and improved microbiology laboratory workflows, but they also present some new challenges. We will discuss the panels and their characteristics, describe the antibiotic stewardship implications of the various panels and describe diagnostic stewardship initiatives that have been implemented to optimize their use.”
