Where have all the Adverts Gone?

Where have all the Adverts Gone?

by Ephraim Gadsby

Today, I was browsing the web and some print magazines looking for interesting news on LIMS and it just dawned on me…

Where have all the Advertisers Gone?  I used to see tons of ads in LIMS magazines and websites for LIMS products.  No more…..

This brought a parody to mind, (of an old 60’s song written by Pete Seeger and made popular by Peter, Paul and Mary), that might explain this observation:

Where have all the adverts gone?
Long time passing…
Where have all the adverts gone?
Long time ago…
Where have all the adverts gone?
Gone to Goooooogle, every one.
Oh when will they ever learn?
Oh when will they ….ever learn?

If LIMS advertisers are any indication, the web is “THE PLACE” and Google has the lead by far.  Gone are the days of $6,000 full page color ads in magazines for one month.  Vendors must be getting great returns on their Pay Per Click ads on Google.  So much so, they appear to be pulling those dollars from print ads that have no ROI tracking and where their effectiveness must be taken on faith.  That same money spent with Google must be providing a world of results for both advertisers as well as consumers.

I am curious:
Are most people getting their news from print or from the web?
What is your favourite search engine?
Do you spend more time on the Internet, both for work and leisure?
How is the internet affecting how consumers find LIMS products and service providers?
Is this affecting Pittcon?

Perhaps my questions could be posted as a survey by one of the Print Magazines.

Oh then will they…. ever learn.
