Wyeth Rolls Out Geospiza Finch Sequencing Center System into Full Production; Increases in Sequencing Productivity Anticipated across All Wyeth Discovery Sites

Wyeth, a global leader in pharmaceuticals, consumer health care products and animal health care products, today announced it has completed the roll-out of Geospiza Finch Sequencing Center Enterprise Edition across its many Discovery sites. The Geospiza system is helping scientists and researchers at large enterprises like Wyeth manage their DNA sequencing data, analysis and laboratory workflow processes so that they can increase the pace at which scientists do their studies, without compromising quality. For Wyeth, the Finch Sequencing Center leads to accelerating efforts to discover and validate novel and more effective small molecule drugs, protein therapeutics and vaccines.

DNA sequencing has proven an essential research vehicle within global bio-pharmaceutical companies in general, and specifically, within Wyeth’s Discovery and Development groups. Geospiza has worked closely with Wyeth’s sequencing groups for nearly three years to improve and refine their sequencing data management strategies. As a result, Geospiza Finch Sequencing Center has been fully integrated into Wyeth’s existing processes to unify its sequencing tools and software and to improve the efficiency and productivity of the Discovery and Development groups throughout the company.

“Geospiza’s system for sequencing data management and workflow has proven itself the most capable, cost-efficient and upwardly compatible system available. By handling all Wyeth’s requesting, processing, storage and distribution tasks for both raw and finished sequencing data, the enterprise version of Geospiza Finch Sequencing Center has demonstrated itself to be the ideal end-to-end solution to handle all sequencing lab projects for large research enterprises such as Wyeth — from request to finishing,” shared Todd Smith, Ph.D., chairman and CEO at Geospiza.

Geospiza Finch Sequencing Center leverages Web-based forms and enterprise-level IT infrastructure for managing sequencing data, analysis and laboratory workflow. Resulting data is automatically checked by the Finch software for quality, then trimmed, vector masked and delivered into a designated secure database scientists can use to review results or share with colleagues and collaborators.
