Zebra Technologies Unveils XML-Enabled Thermal Bar Code Label Printers for Warehouse, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain Applications

Zebra Technologies Corp., a global leader in delivering on-demand printing solutions for business improvement, announced another innovative solution in thermal bar code printing technology: its XML-enabled XiIIIPlus high performance printers designed for open-standards flexibility and to simplify and speed integration of bar code label printing into many of today’s leading supply chain management and manufacturing system applications.

Extensible Markup Language (XML) is increasingly being used to provide more flexible and adaptable information identification for the open exchange of data. As a result, XML is quickly becoming the standard for business-to-business and application-to-application transactions, and is gaining use in EDI, ERP, and manufacturing systems. These applications are driving the need for a simple, efficient interface to on-demand printers. By adopting Zebra’s XML-enabled printers into their business process applications, companies can eliminate or reduce costs for middleware, licensing, print server hardware, administration and programming.

“As diverse business processes become more integrated, open systems become increasingly important for the efficient exchange of data across technology platforms,” said Stuart Itkin, vice president of marketing for Zebra. “Zebra continually strives to deliver innovative printing solutions that save companies time and resources. With XML fast becoming the standard for enterprise software, enabling XML on our high-performance printers was a natural evolution for Zebra.”

Zebra’s XML-enabled printers were developed in collaboration with Oracle to allow printing directly from Oracle’s Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Mobile Supply Chain Applications (MSCA), however, they also can be integrated with a variety of enterprise systems with minimal customization. Zebra XML-enabled printers are the only Oracle-certified WMS/MSCA printer hardware solution available today.

“Oracle WMS and MSCA provide comprehensive capabilities for shop-floor and warehouse mobile workers, which of course includes the need to generate and scan bar code labels,” said Jon Chorley, senior director, Oracle Inventory and WMS. “We are pleased to partner with Zebra on the certification of their XML-enabled printers with our applications. This innovative hardware provides our customers with an excellent option to efficiently generate labels on demand, without requiring additional hardware and middleware.”
