Big Data Fundamentals

This is a University of Adelaide course that is released on the edX platform. The ten-week course is designed to provide greater "understanding of the various applications of big data methods in industry and research." The course is free to take, with a Verified Certificate of completion available for $199. This course is also part of Adelaide's Big Data MicroMasters program. The course requires on average eight to ten hours a week of effort. Access to the class began in the fall of 2022, and the free audit track is available until January 23, 2023.

Cloud Computing Security

This is a University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC)-created course that is released on the edX platform. The eight-week course is designed to help learners "[l]earn how to build a security strategy that keeps data safe and mitigates risk" in the cloud. The course is free to take and is a part of the university's MicroMaster's program. A verified certificate of completion is available afterwards for $299 USD. A session will start November 1 and end December 27.

Information Security: Introduction to Information Security

This is a New York University course that is released on the edX platform. The five-week course is designed as "a self-paced course that provides an introduction to information security and cybersecurity." The course is free to take, with a Verified Certificate of completion available for $166. (Note that the free Audit track expires October 15, 2022.) The course requires on average eight to 10 hours a week of effort. Access to the class started in September 2022.

Introduction to Machine Learning

This is an ITMO University-created course that is released on the edX platform. The introductory five-week course will have you "learn modern methods of machine learning to help you choose the right methods to analyze your data and interpret the results correctly." The course is free to take. A verified certificate of completion, via a Verified track from ITMO, is available afterwards for $149 USD. (Note that the Audit track expires November 1, 2021.)

Biospecimen Research Methods

This is an advanced University of British Columbia-created course that is released on the edX platform. The scheduled six-week course is designed to help learners to better understand 'international best practices for biobanking and research involving human biospecimens, based on National Cancer Institute (NCI) and International Society of Biological Environmental Repositories standards (ISBER)." The course is $99 and presumably comes with a certificate of completion. The course requires on average four to five hours a week of effort. Access to the class begins September 22, 2020.

Laboratory Technology Management & Planning

This document is based on a presentation delivered by chemist and automation consultant Joe Liscouski at the 2nd Annual Lab Asset & Facility Management in Pharma 2019 conference held in San Diego, CA, on October 22nd, 2019. It is not a verbatim transcript, but an expansion of the material presented. The presentation addressed the importance of effective technology management and planning within scientific work. With improved technology management and planning, "[t]hat work should yield better organized systems, reduced costs, better workflows, and improved ROI. How do you go about it? That is what we’ll start to address in this material."

The self-paced five-week course is designed to help learners to better understand "the key standards for representing and sharing healthcare data." The course is free to take, with a Verified Certificate of completion available for $99. The course requires on average 10–11 hours a week of effort. Additionally, this course is part of Georgia Tech's professional certificate program titled Health Informatics on FHIR, for those wanting to take all three courses for their professional cert'.

Demystifying Biomedical Big Data: A User’s Guide

This is a Georgetown University course that is released on the edX platform. The eight-week course is designed to provide greater "understanding, analysis, and interpretation of biomedical big data to those in the biomedical field with limited or no significant experience in bioinformatics." The course is free to take, with a Verified Certificate of completion available for $49. The course requires on average three to six hours a week of effort. Access to the class begins September 9, 2019.

Delivering a Data Warehouse in the Cloud

This is a Microsoft-created course that is released on the edX platform. The self-paced six-week course is designed to help learners "learn how to deploy, design, and load data using Microsoft's Azure SQL Data Warehouse." The course is free to take, with a Verified Certificate of completion available for $99. The course requires on average two to three hours a week of effort. Access to the class begins July 16.

Smarter Chatbots with Node-RED and Watson AI

This three-week edX course, with instructors from IBM, will teach you "how to use Node-RED to augment the capabilities of your Watson Assistant chatbots by integrating services such as Watson Translate and Text to Speech. You'll also practice deployment of chatbots to Facebook Messenger."

Laboratory Information Systems Project Management: A Guidebook for International Implementations

While not a laboratory informatics course in itself, this APHL guidebook certainly contains a full class-worth of material. Developed over several years with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this guide collects comprehensive information from informaticians and laboratorians in multiple countries in regards to the implementation and project management of laboratory information systems (LIS) in the public health setting.

Introduction to Laboratory Informatics

This is a collection of free online introductory laboratory informatics courses developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL). The first two courses follow the journey of a specimen through the laboratory and explores the generation and transmission of data and results within and outside of the laboratory. A third course on laboratory informatics systems is in development. Participants can earn Professional Acknowledgment for Continuing Education® (P.A.C.E.®) credits upon completion.
