Acsys Biometrics Signs Manufacturers’ Representative Agreement with Texoma Security Solutions to Provide Facial Recognition Security Solutions to the Healthcare Industry

Acsys Biometrics Corp. (Acsys) a joint venture company of Nexus Group International Inc. (TSE:NXS), announced today it has executed a Manufacturers Representative Agreement (MRA) with Euless, Texas based, Texoma Security Solutions LLC that will significantly enhance fraud prevention and security solutions at hospitals and other healthcare providers with the use of Acsys advanced biometric products.

Texoma Security Solutions, LLC, located in Euless, Texas, USA signed the MRA to market Acsys Biometrics facial recognition software products, VeraShield and Veraport for the physical and logical access market places. Acsys is the provider of the only facial recognition software that utilizes ‘biomimetics’, a type of artificial intelligence that mimics the analytical processes of the human mind, rather than relying on measurements for recognition.

‘We are pleased to be working with Texoma Security Solutions in introducing the Acsys Biometrics facial recognition technology for use in logical and physical access control solutions for the healthcare market. We share Texoma’s commitment to offer innovative solutions for patient/staff safety and a greater working efficiency leading to lower overall costs,’said John Sutherland, CTO of Acsys.

David Eagan, CEO of Texoma Security Solutions, said, ‘there are several very important applications of this technology for healthcare providers. Foremost is the security issue of access control. Healthcare organizations use smart cards to control access to restricted areas such as pharmaceuticals, newborn nurseries and intensive care units. However, as long as a person has a valid smart card, legitimate or stolen, he is granted access. The new technology being offered by Acsys and Texoma pairs smart cards with facial recognition, which means that even with a valid card, a person will be denied access if his face is not recognized by the software.

The second application is time and attendance abuse. Because most providers use only the card system, employees can falsify their time and attendance records by giving their cards to other employees and getting them to log in or out for them. A dual security system, such as pairing the cards with facial recognition, makes time and attendance abuse virtually impossible.

Third, the use of biometric and smart card synergy to allow authorized access to medical records will rapidly bring the custodians of medical records into compliance with the new U.S. HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) regulations. The Acsys/Texoma software does away with older systems that can be compromised, such as passwords and PIN numbers. With a camera installed at each computer terminal that houses medical records, only ‘recognized’employees are allowed access. More importantly, the software is capable of sensing when an unauthorized person comes into viewing range or when the legitimate user has left the terminal, and automatically shuts down the system to prevent fraudulent access.

‘We can do this rapidly and inexpensively without creating an entirely new system to allow professional access to medical data. This technology could potentially save the Healthcare Industry billions of dollars,’commented Eagan.

‘It is a very powerful system that addresses a number of growing concerns for healthcare providers. There truly is no other system out there right now that has the cutting-edge technology and the practical application that ours does,’commented Mike Regan, Chief Security Engineer for Texoma Security Solutions.
