ChemSW Releases New Enhanced Version of CISProMobile, Delivering Greater Process Efficiency in Inventory Management
Fairfield, California, October 1, 2008 – ChemSW, Inc. has released a new, enhanced version of CISProMobile™ that integrates the popular Microsoft® Windows® CE 5.0 operating system with the CISPro Chemical Inventory System®. Because Windows CE 5.0 combines real time capabilities with advanced Windows technologies, CISProMobile now enables labs to leverage Windows-based handheld devices to streamline inventory management tasks, thereby achieving greater process efficiency.
A handheld software client allows CISProMobile users to enter inventory data into a Windows-compatible handheld device — such as a PDA using a barcode scanner — then packages and uploads the data to CISPro. The combination of barcoding and PDA flexibility reduces the time and effort required to perform inventory processes, enabling users to perform activities such as container disposal, container movement and transfer of ownership faster and with more accuracy..
“There are a number of reasons to incorporate CISProMobile into your inventory processes,” explains David Hessler, Vice President Software Research and Development for ChemSW. “Most importantly, inventory systems are only as good as their last update. The longer it is between spot checks, the more likely the inventory information in the main database will differ from what’s actually in your facility. It’s very important to do spot checks to reconcile the two. Because of the very nature of its function, CISProMobile can greatly improve the efficiency of performing reconciliations.”
“In addition,” he continues, “certain tasks don’t require the user to be in front of a full browser. For instance, the stockroom manager may only want to know who has something or where a container is. Using a handheld device, the manager can quickly check the status of the item by scrolling through the intuitive menus in the Windows interface. Very simple. Very easy.”
CISProMobile now allows users to perform all possible inventory operations, including not only moving, disposing, transferring inventory and changing the container owner, but also reconciliations and fire code reporting of container data.
The Windows interface enables not only direct communications with CISPro but also a richer user experience since users can now access data entry fields for all parameters in the scan as well as perform multiple tasks simultaneously. In addition, the new version of CISProMobile provides the entire history of the scan, allowing users to back out of a process and delete information if something was not initially scanned correctly.
CISProMobile delivers the freedom inherent in handheld devices to inventory activities. The Windows-based PDA screen has much more flexibility than a Videx-based solution, replacing a 16 character two line display with full-fledged menus. PDAs allow full screen viewing, greater configurability, and the option to set up data acquisition and receiving, results entry, even sample collection activities from the palm of your hand. Alternatively, CISProMobile can be used interchangeably with the previous Videx based version, allowing current customers to use both versions.
“In addition, there’s no need to worry about validation,” he points out, “because information acquired by CISProMobile goes through the existing Quality Assurance system the same as any other remote data collection activity. This is really just another user interface on the inventory application; as such it complies with all of the GxPs.”
